Science in Englisch : Cloud Chamber

7 pupils from class 1S1 are at Lycée Marie Curie when the others make a trip to Berlin April 2019. Are they bored ? No, they do science in English and build a cloud chamber to see natural radioactivity ! This is a box who show particle tracks. How it works ? An unstable alcohol gas is produced because of the difference of temperature between the top of the box (20 °C) and the bottom refreshed by dry ice (- 80 °C). When an electric charged particle (proton, electron, muon…) passes threw, an alcohol molecule is ionized and disturbs the gas around it, this forms a track of liquid drops.

The idea come from CERN, the particle accelerator in Geneva where their teacher Mme Winter learned particle physic 5 days long.
